2023 Gilder Lehrman College Fellowship Program in American History

Apply now for a 2023 Gilder Lehrman College Fellowship!

The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History provides annual short-term research fellowships in the amount of $3000 each to undergraduate students majoring or minoring in History, American Studies, Africana, Political Science, or related fields. International college students are eligible to apply. 

This program enables young historians to do research primarily at the Gilder Lehrman Collection—a repository containing more than eighty thousand items documenting the political, social, and economic history of the United States—and also at other archives in New York City.

Fellows will be required to

• Undertake their research in New York City between June 1, 2023 and January 31, 2024

• Visit the office of the Gilder Lehrman Institute during their research trip to New York City 

• Submit a report of 500–750 words on the results of their research, plus a separate paragraph documenting the archival collections consulted during the term of the fellowship
